Kuala Lumpur, November 02 (ANI): Malaysia’s Deputy Foreign Minister A. Kohilan Pillay has said that the women in the country are increasingly being conned by drug-trafficking syndicates, as they easily get charmed and lured.

Hinting at 1,565 Malaysians jailed abroad with 60 percent of them being imprisoned for working as drug mules, the minister said that the women should be more careful in building relation with newly met men.

“Some of the girls meet the men abroad and some meet them in Malaysia,” the Star Online quoted him as saying.

He added: “There have been cases where girls just knew the men for a day and were willing to travel around with a bag, not knowing the contents.”

Kohilan, who was present at the launch of the Wanita MCA women and children’s aid and public complaints bureau in Kepong, also quoted 2007 statistics of the Malaysian citizens imprisoned abroad.

He said: “Thailand has the highest number of jailed Malaysians at 52. In Peru, 12 out of the 15 Malaysians jailed are girls.

“Six in China have been sentenced to death. Since 2007, about 30 Malaysians are in death row.”

He further added that 25 Malaysians were jailed in Taiwan, 11 in China, 12 in Spain and one in Chile.

Kohilan suggested women to remain guarded against syndicates, mostly comprising African men, who tempt them with free flight tickets and cash for shopping.

He ended: “There is no such thing as a free trip. Parents should be mindful of such trips and keep a close watch on their children

London, Oct.26 (ANI): Former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson has said that he has no regrets about his controversial career, adds that he became one of the greatest fighters in spite of his flaws.

At 43, Tyson a.k.a. “Iron Mike” now understands that he grabbed the headlines for all the wrong reasons during his quest to become the most fearsome fighter.

“Everything I have done, the good and the bad, catapulted me to become the person I was willing to become — and that’’s one of the greatest fighters that ever lived. I was happy to be the person who was savage because all my life I used to hear about these fighters who were savages, monsters and animals.
It made them almost inhuman and I loved the stigma behind those guys,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.

“That’’s why they continued to live in my head and that’’s why I wanted to be like them. They motivated me to be the guy that I became at that stage of my life. But that’’s all in the past now,” he added.

London, Oct 23 (ANI): Kerry Katona’s former cabbie hubby Mark Croft is pushing her hard to make money and has talked her into making appearances at Warrington pubs for 50 pounds, it has emerged.

The News of the World quoted a pal as saying: “She is happy to go along with it. She’’s keen to do whatever it takes to earn some extra money.

“The idea is to draw in customers and she enjoys it, as she gets to earn money while getting drunk.”

Kerry, who lost her lucrative 250,000 pound-a-year deal with Iceland due to coke snorting video, is now desperate to fill her wallet, while Croft is still indulging himself on her cash as he recently took the delivery of a 26,395-pound Ford Focus.

The friend revealed: “Mark put his name on the list for his new car six months ago, and was over the moon to add another to his collection.

“He’’s been showing it off to everyone. But it’’s Kerry’’s money. While she is panicking about her finances, he’’s out buying another toy.”

Croft has also believed to be cajoling Katona for appearing at Christmas parties, shop openings and nightclubs.

The insider added: “Kerry hasn”t got much work lined up so is keen to do whatever she can. Mark has persuaded her that doing personal appearances is a good way to make some money and raise her profile again.

“Mark’’s also been speaking to nightclub owners in Cheshire, to get them to do Kerry Katona nights.

“He knows Kerry’’s celebrity status and car crash life make her lucrative.”

However, Katona’s spokesman has rubbished the claims. (ANI)

London, Oct 25 (ANI): Rachida Dati, the former French justice minister, has for the first time spoken of the agony she feels at the constant guessing game about the identity of her baby’s father.

“It can be humiliating,” she said, referring to speculation.

“It is also hurtful to people around me,” she added.

Dati, who was severely criticized for returning to office as the justice minister of France only five days after giving birth to daughter Zohra in January, also defended her return to work, reports The Times.

“Being a minister is not like being a check-out girl or some other worker,” she said in her first interview with a foreign journalist since having her baby.

“In any case, I think that the most elemental woman’s right is the right to choose,” she added.

The 43-year-old mockingly added: “I was pregnant, it started a controversy. People didn’t know about my private life — controversy. I was carrying out reforms [as justice minister], more controversy. I wore high heels and was well dressed, controversy there too.”

On the joys of parenthood, she described the birth of her child as “the best thing in my life”.

“I have more of a time limit than if I were 20,” she said.

“It is the best thing that can happen. It gives you another definition of life. I have less obsessions. And I’m much more attentive to health these days. Because I say to myself I have a baby.

“I have friends who never wanted to have children. I don’t judge them. But I always said, even when I didn’t have children, that I thought my life would be a failure if I didn’t have any,” she added.

Various media sources have linked the identity of Zohra’s father to many international statesmen, politicians and celebrities from Jose Maria Aznar, the former prime minister of Spain, to Ali Bin Fetais al-Marri, the attorney-general of Qatar. However, they all have issued denials. (ANI)

London, Oct 25 (ANI): Neanderthals had sex with modern humans across the species barrier, claims a leading geneticist.

Using DNA retrieved from fossils, Professor Svante Paabo, director of genetics at the renowned Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, will soon publish his analysis of the entire Neanderthal genome.

Through the study, he hopes to compare it with the genomes of modern humans and chimpanzees to work out the ancestry of all three species, reports The Times.

About 40,000 years ago, modern humans arrived in Europe from Africa to find Neanderthals already living there. The two species then co-existed for 10,000-12,000 years before Neanderthals died out.

Recently Paabo told a conference at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory near New York that he’s convinced the two species had sex, however, how “productive” it was is still a question.

“What I’m really interested in is, did we have children back then and did those children contribute to our variation today?” he said.

“I’m sure that they had sex, but did it give offspring that contributed to us? We will be able to answer quite rigorously with the new [Neanderthal genome] sequence,” the expert added. (ANI)

Vadodara, Oct 24(ANI): In contrast to Australian captain Ricky Ponting’s view on the length of the seven-game ODI series between India and Australia, Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Saturday said that the “long series” would provide an opportunity for teams to bounce back.

Ponting had earlier questioned the logic behind playing a long series citing that the team that had already wrapped up the rubber will find it difficult to maintain focus.

However, Dhoni said: “This series is a long series, what will really happen in this series is, it will give you an opportunity to come back into the series. It’’s a seven-match series, so, you have ample time.”

“So, it is important to play good cricket throughout because it’’s not like a five-day game series or four game series,” Dhoni added.

Dhoni further admitted that the Australia team hold an edge due to world-class all-rounders that they boast of.

“When it comes to all-rounders, I think they are very crucial. Because when you have all rounders then what you can really do is you can play with five bowlers, five specialist bowlers, so definitely they have the luxury, they have players who can bat well and bowl well at the same time,” he said.

Commenting over the recent injuries that have plagued the Indian team, Dhoni said: “Well most of the guys are fit to be precise and I think you know sports related injuries. If somebody gets it while batting or while fielding, you can”t really do much. The practice sessions are so intense right now, you try to give your best and at times you get injured. Its part and parcel of the game, but if it happens too many times in the same span, you can say you are a bit unlucky.”

Team India is already under threat after injury scares to Dhoni, Gautam Ghambir and Suresh Raina at practice.

Dhoni would also be missing the service of bowling spearhead Zaheer Khan, who is yet to recover from a left-shoulder injury

London, October 24 (ANI): Linda Gray has said she does not want to reprise her role of Sue Ellen Ewing as a “boring” old lady in the TV remake of the soap opera Dallas.

The 69-year-old American actress said she wanted her popular character to be a “powerhouse role model” for older women in the planned television series.

“I”m not going to wear little boring dresses with pearls around my neck. At this age, Sue Ellen should be a powerhouse role model,” The Telegraph quoted her as telling TV Guide.

Dallas originally ran as a prime-time television soap opera for 13 seasons from 1978 to 1991.

It revolved around the Ewings, a wealthy Texas family in the oil and cattle-ranching industries.

Lahore, Oct.24 (ANI) Pakistan cricket captain Younis Khan and his deputy Shahid Afridi have reportedly resolved their differences during a close-door meeting arranged by the officials of a local team which both the players represent.

According to sources privy to the development, the truce meeting between the players was organized by Sports Division Head of Habib Bank Limited, Abdul Raquib with the view that the nation needed a united team for the packed cricketing schedule ahead.

“There was obviously some misunderstanding between the two. They have also realised that some people and players in the team were trying to create a wedge between them for their own sake,” The Daily Times quoted sources, as saying.

Speculations were rife that Afridi may take over the captaincy from Khan following the latter’s resignation from the post recently.

But with the stalemate between Khan and the PCB being resolved and the board agreeing to retain Khan as the skipper of the national squad till 2011, Pakistan cricket fans can hope for better results from their team in tournaments ahead.
